Anxiety

Helping people to be their best using the solution-focused approach to recovery and high performance

Anxiety is caused by over thinking and a build up of negative thoughts and worries. It is not the events in our lives that necessarily cause the perception of crisis but the thought patterns surrounding these. Anxiety is the most common issue that people come to see me for and is easily reduced effectively in a number of sessions.

Every negative thought that we have is converted into anxiety. We can create anxiety by negatively forecasting the future or introspecting about the past. The primitive mind can not tell the difference between patterns in the brain caused by the imagination and patterns created by reality.

Every negative thought that we have is accumulated and stored. We say it is stored in a ‘stress bucket’. Thankfully there is a method of emptying our stress bucket and it is known as REM sleep, Rapid Eye Movement.

“At night we re-run the events of the day and change them from being an emotional memory to a narrative memory. A memory we have control over.”

Sadly for one reason or another, REM is restricted to about 20% of our sleep patterns. If we try to overdo that because there is too much to process than that 20% can cope with then the mind will wake us up in the night.  We know when it is our mind waking us up because we wake up wide awake and we will often feel quite miserable. Often we can not get back to sleep again. We know the difference between that and somebody coming in and waking us up for instance.

This can lead into the grip of a vicious circle. The more we have in our ‘stress bucket’, the more time we will spend in our primitive brain trying to process the stress so the more we will be encouraged to be negative.

So what we will do with solution-focused hypnotherapy is reduce your anxiety and calm the mind of negative thoughts to get the ‘you at your best’ back. You will be given an audio recording to listen to as you go to sleep which will start the process off.  Before the hypnosis starts you will be given a 1 hour initial consultation to gather information and tailor the treatment to suit your needs. You will be given a sound understanding about the physiology of the brain and about what happens when we suffer from anxiety and its’ effects.

The following week you will relax on the therapy couch. One of the tremendous advantages we have here is that we use trance. Trance is a course very ordinary in many ways.

“We go into trance many times a day, when we are driving, watching TV, staring out of the window doing the dishes etc.”

Trance is when the two parts of the brain come together (primitive and intellectual) and focus on the same thing at the same time. When we are in that state we have access to the subconscious mind. This is going to help us enormously and it is easily implemented.

Clients usually find their sleep patterns improve and motivation, confidence and self-esteem are all restored.
